Researchers at the University of Zambia -UNZA- Great East Road Campus in Lusaka have applied for ethical clearance to commence research which could culminate into finding medication that can treat or cure COVID-19.

Dr. James Nyirenda, a lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Chemistry, says his team has made the application through the Ethical Biomedical Committee at Ridgeway Campus.

He told ZNBC news in Lusaka that government has made available K99,000 through the National Science Technology Council to put up logistics for sampling.

Dr. Nyirenda said research on COVID-19 medication is sensitive and that the researchers will work with caution in an effort to find treatment or cure that can mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
