Zambia: Water Testing Heightened

Water Development and Sanitation Minister Mike Mposha says government has heightened water testing and distribution of Chlorine in areas prone to typhoid and other water borne diseases.

Mr. Mposha who is also Munali Member of Parliament says water testing by Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company has shown that contamination usually happens at a point of storage in homes.

He says the Ministry through the Lusaka Water Supply and Sanitation Company has been conducting water tests in various communities to ensure people consume safe water.

Mr. Mposha has since cautioned people to ensure they chlorinate or boil the water stored before drinking.

He said this at the launch of the drinking water treatment – sensitization and chlorine distribution campaign by the Alliance for World Change and partners in Lusaka.

The minister said government will intensify sensitisation campaigns on water treatment in communities vulnerable to water borne disease.

Mr. Mposha has since commended Alliance for World Change and Partners for collaborating with government to distribute chlorine to marketeers and residents in various areas.

And Alliance for World Change Operations Officer Mundia Liwalii said they are earmarked to distribute over a thousand bottles of Chlorine in areas prone to water borne diseases.
