Zambia: ZRA Impounds 3 Trucks For Smuggling Fuel

The Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA- has impounded three trucks at the ZRA Makeni Enforcement Center for fuel smuggling scams.

ZRA Corporate Communications Manager Topsy Sikalinda says the trucks were declared as transit Cargo to the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC- by Fedrol Cargo Logistics, a Zambian Clearing Agent.

Sikalinda says the Authority has also suspended the Taxpayer Identification Number – TPIN- for the clearing company.

He explains that one of the trucks carrying fuel worth over one million Kwacha was declared as transit fuel going to the DRC but was offloaded in Zambia in order to avoid the payment of taxes.

Sikalinda says alert ZRA officials monitored the movement of the truck and had to wait for the truck to start offloading the consignment in the light industrial area to impound and document the evidence.

He says transit fraud is being monitored and all those involved will be dealt with accordingly.

Sikalinda was speaking in an interview with ZNBC News in Lusaka Wednesday.
