Zambia: MCM Miners get Paid

Hundreds of Miners from Mopani Copper Mines who protested on Tuesday this week over the delayed second payment of their terminal benefits and accrued loan repayments have started receiving their money today.

This follows successful talks between Government and Mopani over the plight of Hundreds of unionized workers at the Mining Giant in Kitwe and Mufulira.

Mine Workers Union of Zambia President JOSEPH CHEWE has confirmed to Journalists during a press briefing in Kitwe that Miners started receiving their payments today.

He also thanked the newly appointed Kitwe District Commissioner; LAWRENCE MWANZA who as soon as he reported to work started fighting for the Miners welfare.

Meanwhile, MUZ Secretary General GEORGE MUMBA dispelled stories circulating on social Media that union leaders incited workers on Tuesday to protest over their delayed payments from Mopani Copper mine.

Mr. MUMBA said in an interview with Journalists that Unions have no time to incite any one neither do they belong to any political party.

The MUZ Secretary General appealed to Zambians NOT to entertain such stories.

Earlier, some workers spoken to by ZNBC News in an interview thanked Government for pressing Mopani to pay them on time
