Zambia: PF, UPND Sign Peace Accord

The Patriotic Front-PF and United Party for National Development-UPND have signed a peace accord, signaling commitment to ending the electoral violence that has engulfed the two political parties ahead of the August 12 ,2021 General Election.

The signing of the prestigious peace accord has been done in Lusaka on Tuesday.

The event was witnessed by the Electoral Commission of Zambia -ECZ- and the Zambia Police Service.

And PF Secretary General Davies Mwila warned that his party will not condone violence among its members.

On the other hand, UPND Secretary General Batuke Imenda said peaceful co-existence among Zambians regardless of political affiliation is cardinal to maintaining the country’s peaceful climate.

And ECZ Chief Electoral Officer, Patrick Nshindano assured the nation that the electoral body is committed to delivering a peaceful, fair and impartial general election.

Nshindano also reiterated that the printing of ballot papers for the August 12,2021 polls in Dubai, United Arabs Emirates has been almost completed.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Kakoma Kanganja announced that 61 people have been arrested so far on electoral violence related activities.

Kanganja further announced that properties worth over One million 800 Kwacha have been estimated vandalised in electoral fracas.
