Zambian Farmers Warned Of FISP Deregistration

By Mark Ziligone

The Zambian Government has warned that farmers who have continued selling inputs meant for the Farmer Input Support Programme -FISP- risk being removed from the programme.

Central Province Permanent secretary Bernard Chomba says Government has noted with concern the continued abuse the programme by some farmers in the province.

Chomba adds that government is spending a lot of money to subsidise on farming inputs and that farmers should use the programme to boost the agricultural sector.

He says some dubious farmers involved in the vice will be removed from the programme to pave way for other serious people.

Chomba was speaking when Neria Investments Limited General Manager Martin Chaikatisha called on him at his office.

And Chaikatisha pledged to continue with the consistent distribution of inputs to ensure there is adequate preparation on the part of farmers.

He has disclosed that Neria has distributed 70 percent of the allocated consignment to the province.
